Florida's PRO-BUSINESS Agenda
Sustaining a Path to Prosperity

Our local, state and federal elected leaders need to hear from business leaders and their workers to better understand the importance of business to Florida's economic strength. The Florida Prosperity Project offers employers a simple way to give their employees information about incumbent elected officials, statewide ballot issues, and other public policies that affect your company, including job security, employee benefits and wages - information to consider when they and their family members go to the polls to vote.

Repeal of Joint & Several Liability
Florida should join the 23 states that have eliminated joint and several liability and adopt a system of liability which assigns damages based on the degree of fault and amount of damage a business or individual causes. This way, no person or business would be responsible for any more than their fair share.

Health Care
Health Care is one of the biggest costs to Florida employers. The business community must pay careful attention to legislative actions that drive up the cost, such as mandated coverage, as well as those actions designed to keep costs down, such as encouraging businesses to provide Health Savings Accounts to employees. Long term care is another health care priority for businesses, with more and more employees concerned that their loved ones receive adequate care while they are at work.

Growth Management
There have been significant changes to Florida's growth management policies recently dealing with transportation, water, school concurrency and local comprehensive plans. Florida highways are congested, making it harder and harder to move goods and people throughout the state. Certain regions may have limited water supplies which could stop growth. Because of all of the complexities of the new growth management laws and the ever changing environment we live in, the Florida Legislature will have to revisit certain provisions to tackle unresolved issues.

Elimination of Sales Tax on Manufacturing Equipment
Currently Florida levies a 6% sales tax on manufacturing machinery and equipment, creating a disincentive for Florida-based manufacturers to invest in new equipment. Legislation is needed to help put Florida on competitive footing with the 36 states that levy no taxes on manufacturing machinery and equipment.

Communication Equals Success

Polls show that the more employees hear from their companies about political subjects, the more they approve of and want the information - and the more inclined they are to participate in the election process.

53% Employees that wished their employers would provide more information about election issues and how they impact their jobs 24% Employees that said employer-provided information made them
more likely to vote

"The Prosperity Project is by far the largest, fastest growing and most sophisticated program of its kind."

By sharing important political information
with our employees, Florida's business community
can take a leading role in protecting and growing jobs in our state. Together we can make a difference in fostering a pro-business environment in Florida.
