Regarding Senate Concurrent Resolution 4

“Faced with the consequence of the first government shutdown in 15 years, Congress took action late Friday to cut $38 billion from the federal budget. It is a meager cut when viewed in the context of our nation’s $14 trillion deficit, but a positive recognition that government cannot continue to recklessly spend and borrow and must learn to live within its means.

Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) applauds Senate President Haridopolos for announcing his sponsorship of Senate Concurrent Resolution 4 (SCR 4), which calls for a requirement that our federal government do what our state legislature does each and every year – approve a balanced budget.

Reining in government spending helps keep taxes low and enables Florida employers to sustain and create jobs. AIF continues to support legislation that will protect the business community during these incredibly tough times so businesses can keep employing our citizens and be a major component of this state’s tax base. We urge members of the Florida Senate to pass SCR 4 and send our leaders on Capitol Hill a clear message that our out-of-control federal spending must stop.”
