Governor Announces Toni Jennings as New Lieutenant Governor

.

Today, Gov. Jeb Bush announced the selection of Toni Jennings to fill out the term of Lt. Governor Frank Brogan, who resigned to become the president of Florida Atlantic University.

Jennings is a former lawmaker who served as Senate president from 1996 to 2000. The Orlando Republican was elected to the House of Representatives in 1976 and then to the Senate in 1980, where she served until term limits forced her out in 2000. She was granted an overall 85 percent pro-business voting record by AIF, covering her legislative career from 1979 (the first year records were kept) to 2000.

During her time in the Legislature, Jennings gained a reputation as a conciliatory moderate. She is expected to help Gov. Jeb Bush in his dealing with the Senate during the legislative sessions that remain in his term..
