Correspondence from Senate President Jeff Atwater
Regarding the Potential for an October Special Session

September 10, 2009

There has been much speculation in the last couple of days regarding a potential Special Legislative Session during the month of October.  With the recent signing by Governor Charlie Crist of a gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, all eyes have been on the Florida Legislature as they will have to approve the compact before it can go into effect.  In addition, a number of other issues like offshore oil drilling have been mentioned as potential proposals for consideration during this Special Session.  Earlier today, Senate President Jeff Atwater (R-North Palm Beach) released a letter to Governor Crist and one to his fellow senators describing his feelings on the compact, offshore drilling, and the Special Session.  In the letter to his colleagues, Senate President Atwater described the probability of Special Session in October as “highly unlikely.”

Below are copies of both letters.
