Senate Eliminates E-Verify Mandates in Immigration Reform Bill
May 3, 2011

Today, the Florida Senate took up their version of controversial immigration legislation - SB 2040. AIF has been strongly opposed to E-Verify provisions found within the Senate's proposal that would have caused undue mandates on Florida's business.

Under the leadership of Senator JD Alexander (R-Lake Wales), the measure was substantially amended today to eliminate the mandated use of E-Verify. Recognizing the importance of creating jobs and removing burdens on employers, the full Senate further voted down any further attempts to implement E-Verify. SB 2040 will now head to third reading where a final vote will be taken.

AIF commends members of the Florida Senate for their support on this very important issue for Florida's employers.
