With just three weeks left to go in the 2012 Session, pressure is mounting to progress legislation to the finish line.  Late last week the Senate Budget committee passed their version of the budget coming in at $70.8 billion dollars.  The Senate version is slightly higher than the House and legislators will look to the conference process to resolve their differences. Here’s a brief overview of the items detailed in this week’s episode:

  • One of AIF’s top priorities – HB 7051 by Rep. Matt Caldwell (R-Ft. Meyers) – was signed into law last week by Governor Rick Scott.  This legislation was needed to send the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s new rules on water quality criteria to the US Environmental Protection Agency.
  • SB 1514 by Senator Nancy Detert (R-Venice), known as the “E-Fairness” legislation, would compel online retailers to charge sales taxes on products shipped to Florida.
  • A major economic package that passed the House last week. HB 7087 by the Finance and Tax Committee includes a number of incentives and tax cuts for important industries in Florida like manufacturing, agriculture, film, and aerospace.

In this week’s episode, we are proud to bring you an exclusive interview with Representative Eric Eisnaugle (R-Orlando). Rep Eisnaugle is the House sponsor of HB 1003, a measure that will reduce the tangible personal property (TPP) tax and provide significant tax relief for Florida’s small business employers.
