ELECTION DAY "VOTING PROBLEMS"

November 6, 2002

After numerous reports this morning from around the state, on various problems with polls and voting machines, Governor Jeb Bush issued an executive order  keeping all polling places open an extra two hours.

Among the problems reported were late opening precincts and ballots that wouldn’t scan. A major problem has been the brand new touch screen voting machines implemented this year after the debacle of the 2000 election. According to press reports many of them will not start up and other rumors persist that some that did work wouldn’t accept a vote for Charlie Crist who is running for Attorney General. In addition, Corey Alston, the AIF-endorsed candidate in SD 26, was left off the ballot in a Broward County precinct.
