On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 17th freshman Congressman Steve Southerland (R-2) visited AIF headquarters to discuss the current political landscape in Washington, DC.
During his visit, Congressman Southerland addressed the federal deficit and the lingering concern surrounding the “debt ceiling”, as well as the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) role in hampering business practices in Florida. Congressman Southerland stated that “the EPA has unfairly targeted Florida with the proposal of burdensome Numeric Nutrient Criteria (NNC). Florida was working on a scientific approach to implementing NNC standards which were then "snatched away" from the state by the federal government.”
During his campaign for the United States House of Representatives in 2010, AIF endorsed Mr. Southerland as the best pro-business candidate for the 2nd House District of Florida.
