Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to AIF President & CEO Tom Feeney in regards to Senate Bill 1076, by Senator Anitere Flores (R-Miami), relating to a tax reduction on sales of electrical power or energy passing the Senate Committee on Communications, Energy and Public Utilities.
“We are pleased today by the actions of the Senate Committee on Communications, Energy and Public Utilities passing Senate Bill 1076, relating to a tax reduction on the sales of electrical power or energy.
‘This good piece of legislation, proposed by Commissioner Adam Putnam and sponsored by Senator Anitere Flores, will provide badly needed tax relief to Florida’s businesses by phasing in a tax break over a three-year period. Additionally, AIF supports a shift in revenue to PECO, which will result in an increased investment in schools, technology and other education infrastructure. The bill also goes one step further in benefitting Florida consumers by providing for a sales tax holiday weekend for energy-efficient appliance purchases.
“We applaud Commissioner Putnam and Senator Flores on their energy efforts and look forward to this good legislation moving forward in the process.”
SB 1076 has also been referenced to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Finance and Tax and the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
