Tallahassee, Fla. – Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today issued the following statement on behalf of its President & CEO Tom Feeney regarding Vice President Mike Pence’s visit to Orlando, Fla., to discuss tax reform.
“As the voice of Florida business, AIF appreciates Vice President Mike Pence coming to Orlando today to fight for Florida businesses and job growth by cutting taxes and reforming the outdated federal tax code.
“Florida businesses are in desperate need of a working tax system that benefits all Floridians, allowing hard-earned dollars to go back into their pockets and continue to make Florida the No. 1 place to do business.
“Earlier today, we were discussing at our Building Florida’s Future Symposium how our state is uniquely set up to be more competitive than ever with our numerous seaports and attractions that allow trade, transportation and tourism to be a major driving force behind our state’s economy. However, in order to bolster the number of businesses wanting to relocate and grow their businesses here in the Sunshine State, we must reduce the tax rate on businesses and workers across America.
“The bottom line is our tax code is outdated. The United States’ corporate income tax should not be the highest in the developing world, yet it is with a rate that is 15 percent higher than average in developed countries. AIF supports reforming the federal tax code.”
Known as “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920. A voluntary association of diversified businesses, AIF was created to foster an economic climate in Florida conducive to the growth, development, and welfare of industry and business and the people of the state.
