Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President & CEO Tom Feeney regarding Governor Ron DeSantis’ appointments of Robert Luck and Carlos Muñiz to the Florida Supreme Court.
“In recent decades, Florida Supreme Court activist members have substituted their biases for the legitimate powers and prerogatives rightfully executed by the elected Governor and elected legislators.
“As James Madison warned in Federalist 47: ‘The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.’
“A judiciary that respects the function of the democratically elected branches also helps preserve the important nature of its independence when properly functioning in the jurisprudential realm. The Governor’s selections are evidence he has a profound understanding of the appropriate roles of each of the three constitutional branches.”
Known as “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920.
