Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President & CEO Tom Feeney commending the Florida Legislature for passing Senate Bill 50 relating to taxation.
“AIF and its members sincerely thank the Florida Legislature for passing Senate Bill 50 today to protect and provide tax relief for Florida businesses.
“Under the leadership of Senate President Wilton Simpson and House Speaker Chris Sprowls, this great bill filed by Senator Joe Gruters and Representative Chuck Clemons to finally level the playing field for Florida’s brick and mortar stores and out-of-state online retailers, developed into a comprehensive package to support Florida businesses. Senate Bill 50 now ensures Florida’s businesses can be more competitive in the global marketplace by collecting sales tax from out-of-state retailers, then using that revenue to stop an unexpected unemployment tax increase for employers and substantially reduce Florida’s business rent tax rate.
“Policies like this help ensure Florida maintains its business-friendly environment and will continue to prosper. We believe this plan is a significant win for our state.”
Known as “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920.
