Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President Brewster Bevis regarding Governor Ron DeSantis, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo and House Speaker Paul Renner announcing plans for a comprehensive tort reform package this legislative session.
“We commend Governor DeSantis, President Passidomo and Speaker Renner for their commitment to bringing balanced reform to our state’s legal system and reining in lawsuit abuse. Florida’s current tort climate is one of the top challenges facing businesses in every industry and every corner of our state. Ill-intentioned attorneys looking to make a profit have taken advantage of the current legal system to manufacture frivolous lawsuits that threaten businesses’ ability to operate, inhibit economic growth and drive costs up for consumers. Governor DeSantis and our legislative leaders recently made great progress on this issue related to property insurance, and we are grateful they remain dedicated to reforming the system in its entirety to bring Florida’s tort climate from a judicial hellhole to one that supports both businesses and consumers.”
