AIF Commends Senate Judiciary Committee’s Passage of Tort Reform Legislation

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President & CEO Brewster Bevis regarding Senate Bill 236 relating to Civil Remedies by Senator Travis Hutson.  SB 236 today passed the Senate Committee on Judiciary, its second committee of reference.

“It’s time to end the tort tax that Florida businesses and consumers are being forced to pay because of the tricks of trial lawyers, and AIF commends members of the Senate Committee on Judiciary for taking action today to do just that. The reforms advanced today make meaningful changes to rebalance Florida’s legal system and bring an end to lawsuit abuse in our state, which will help ensure businesses can continue to not only operate, but thrive. We thank Senator Travis Hutson for spearheading this effort in the Senate and appreciate the continued support from Senate President Kathleen Passidomo. AIF will continue to stand in strong support of tort reform this session.”

SB 236 has also been referred to the Senate Committee on Fiscal Policy.

Known as “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920.
