Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President & CEO Brewster Bevis regarding House Bill 837 relating to Civil Remedies by Representatives Tommy Gregory and Tom Fabricio. CS/CS/HB 837 was passed by the Florida House of Representatives today.
“With the House’s passage today of legislation that will significantly transform our state’s legal system, Speaker Paul Renner has taken a stand in support of Florida’s businesses and consumers and put unscrupulous billboard lawyers on notice. The House’s bill will put a stop to frivolous lawsuits being filed simply for personal gain, bring much needed balance back to the system, and cut the tort tax that all Floridians have been forced to pay for far too long. AIF thanks Speaker Renner and the House members who supported House Bill 837 today for taking this bold action, as these reforms will undoubtedly improve Florida’s legal and business climate.”
Known as “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920. A voluntary association of diversified businesses, AIF was created to foster an economic climate in Florida conducive to the growth, development, and welfare of industry and business and the people of the state.
