Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) today released the following statement attributed to its President & CEO Brewster Bevis regarding House Bill 837 relating to Civil Remedies, which was passed by the Florida Senate.
“Florida’s business community identified our state’s toxic legal climate as the top issue to address during the 2023 Legislative Session, and our elected leaders swiftly delivered with meaningful reforms that will truly restore fairness and end lawsuit abuse. AIF thanks President Passidomo for her leadership, Senator Travis Hutson for shepherding this important issue in the Senate, and all the senators who supported the bill on the floor today. With the Legislature’s final passage of this bill, Florida is well on its way to putting an end to the tort tax that was forced on Florida businesses and consumers by billboard lawyers looking to line their pockets through frivolous lawsuits.”
Known as “The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State, AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920. A voluntary association of diversified businesses, AIF was created to foster an economic climate in Florida conducive to the growth, development, and welfare of industry and business and the people of the state.
