Special Notice:
The Battle to Keep Effective Legal Reform

AIF Member,

Here is a critical update on AIF's efforts to defend Florida's hard-fought insurance and tort reforms in the 2025 legislative session. Those reforms have stabilized Florida's economy and made our state the most business-friendly in the country.

In 2022 and 2023, AIF supported Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida's Republican leadership in curbing lawsuit abuse and bringing relief to Florida's strained insurance markets. As a result of these reforms, rates are stabilizing, more insurers are entering the market, and Florida families are finally protected.

But now, surprisingly, some of those same lawmakers want to undo the very laws that made that progress a reality.

Several bills moving through the House (HBs 155114371181, and 947) threaten to undo the progress we’ve made. These measures would reintroduce loopholes that would let trial attorneys game the system, inflate medical damages, and drag Florida back to the days when we were known as America’s "Judicial Hellhole.”

At the moment, the House has returned HB 947 to committee for further debate, and the Senate, thankfully, has declined to debate any legislation that would reverse our hard-won progress.

Nevertheless, we can't slow down. It is important to remember that nothing is ever off the table until the Legislature adjourns. Now is the time to remind lawmakers why these reforms were needed: to curb lawsuit abuse and safeguard consumers.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Call your state representative and senator today.

Tell them how these harmful bills would hurt your business and undermine the reforms that are just starting to take hold. As employers and job creators who help make Florida’s success story possible, your voice matters.

AIF remains fully committed to defending these reforms, and to building a marketplace that is fair, competitive, and stable. We’ll continue to fight for policies that reward productivity and innovation — not those that line the pockets of a few billboard attorneys at the expense of hardworking Floridians.

Thank you for your continued engagement and support.
