FLORIDA VOTERS FAVOR BUILDING DATA CENTERS TO PROVIDE PROPERTY TAX RELIEF & HARDEN NATIONAL SECURITY

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) Center for Political Strategy today announced polling results showing that nearly two-thirds of Florida voters support building data centers as a means to lower local property taxes and to keep Florida jobs and critical data and technology secure from foreign adversaries.

Key findings include:

  • Strong Statewide Support:  Nearly two-thirds of Florida voters (64%) support building a data center in their community as a means to lower local property taxes and keep jobs and critical data and technology secure from foreign adversaries.
  • Overwhelming Republican and Independent Support: Support for the proposal garners strong support across party lines, most notably amongst Republicans – 77% of Republicans, 62% of Independents, and a near majority of Democrats (46%) approve of the proposal.
  • Demographic Support: The measure has broad majority support across all races and ethnicities – 62% of white voters, 66% of black voters, and 70% of hispanic voters approve of the measure.
  • Regional Strength: The proposal captures majority approval across all media markets in Florida, including 75% in Ft. Myers, 67% in Miami and Palm Beach, 64% in Orlando and Jacksonville, 63% in the Panhandle and Gainesville, and 57% in Tampa.
  • Support by Age: The measure earns strong majority support from younger and older voters including 74% of seniors and 53% of voters under 30.
  • Trump Voter Support: Significant support also exists among Trump 2024 voters - 76% of Trump 2024 voters approve of the measure.

“Florida voters want smart economic growth that lowers their property tax burden, creates high-paying jobs here at home, and secures our state’s most sensitive information from hostile foreign actors overseas,” said AIF Vice President of Politcal Operations Jeremy Sheftel. “Building data centers is a common‑sense measure that delivers real relief for homeowners and workers while keeping our data here in America and out of the hands of bad actors like Communist China. At a time when cost and affordability are squeezing Florida families who are working record hours trying to make an honest living, Florida lawmakers have a real opportunity to deliver tangible relief to voters by welcoming data center investments that lower taxes and boost local economies while keeping our data out of the hands of our adversaries.”
